The Persian cat: what you need to know about the most regal of cats
The Persian Cat is among the most fascinating felines, but also among the most delicate ones that requires some particular attention. Here are the ones.
If you are thinking of expanding your family by bringing home a cat that is charming and friendly at the same time, well… the Persian cat is for you.
Although – it must be said – know that by taking a Persian cat with you, you will bring a real king into your home!
And obviously like all kings you have to know how to treat them. In fact, his long and majestic hair, which makes him an elegant and glamorous cat, requires a lot of attention and patience.
But don’t worry… despite its regal and majestic and at times somewhat austere appearance, the Persian cat will know how to reciprocate your affection.
Despite appearances, it is a cat that proves to be an excellent companion because in reality it is a very sociable, intelligent and affectionate cat.
So let’s see what there is to know about the Persian cat and how to take care of it.
Its origins
Although the name suggests it originates from ancient Persia (present-day Iran), the Persian cat is actually an artificial breed. The result of a series of crosses between various long-haired feline breeds, in particular the Angora cat.
However, the origin is in Asia Minor, from which some specimens, different from the current Persian breed, left to be brought to Europe in the 17th century by the writer Pietro Della Valle, very much in love with this type of cat.
The actual selection took place in the 19th century and during the Victorian era it became the queen’s favorite cat. From here it began to have great diffusion as a domestic cat, first in the blue fur version, then in the black and white ones.
The character
As mentioned above, this type of cat is generally affectionate and docile, easy-going, good-natured and knows how to be loyal.
However, he is not the emblem of the nosy, trouble-making cat.
In fact, the Persian, as is known, is a cat that often loves to laze around.
A real lazy man, albeit a royal lazy one: any place in the house where he chooses to doze is still his throne.
Having a calm nature, and being a lover of long naps, he is a cat who moves slowly around the house without causing any discomfort. In fact, he is so silent that he could often seem like an almost invisible presence.
However, don’t be fooled by this character aspect, because the Persian cat actually loves to be in company.
He is not mischievous and in the presence of other cats and dogs he adapts without problems.
Not being a very lively cat, who therefore loves to wander outside the house, you need to be careful with his diet as he risks gaining weight.
Physical aspect
The physical appearance of the Persian cat is stocky and compact, its distinctive feature is the flattened muzzle due to its being brachycephalic, that is, its skull is wider than it is long. Due to this physical peculiarity, he tends to suffer from eye problems and breathing difficulties, which however can be resolved by keeping him under control.
Its charm comes from its famous thick and long hair, which reaches up to 20 centimetres. But the Persian is not only distinguished by the length of its coat, but also and in particular by its colour: there are 200 color combinations, even if the most common colors are black, white, chocolate and blue.
Based on the color of the fur, FIFE has selected 3 groups of Persian cats: the Van Persian cat with colored spots on the tail and head; the Bicolor for a third white; the Harlequin with a sixth of his cloak white and the rest colored. There is also a short-haired species called exotic shorthair.
Finally, the Persian cat breed is also famous for the fact that it can have coats and eyes of different colors.
How to take care
Let’s start with nutrition. Being lazy by nature, the Persian needs a varied and balanced diet to prevent it from accumulating too much weight.
However, as regards the care of the coat, it is clear that it requires particularly demanding care. Grooming in the Persian cat is almost obligatory. As well as daily attention at home.
In fact, it is necessary to brush it every day and clean the eyes that tend to water. It must be washed periodically to ensure a shiny coat, which is why its long, thick coat needs specific products and treatments.
And here we at Aries Soluzioni Naturali come into play with our Cloud Line specific for cat fur.

Returning to the Persian cat, we conclude by reminding you how important it is to brush it constantly.
In fact, the Persian is a cat particularly subject to intestinal obstructions caused by the ingestion of hair which it sheds in large quantities during the moulting period. So be careful not to forget to brush your little king!
